Who donates from Iowa
Iowa donations come from insurance and financial offices in Des Moines, manufacturers in Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities, university departments in Ames and Iowa City, and farm families who rely on laptops and tablets for planting, records and school.
Iowa winters are cold and windy. Let devices reach room temperature before packing, and keep boxes dry.
Donating from home
A home donation from Iowa usually takes three steps: the form, our review, and shipping after approval. Photos help our team decide quickly.
Whether you live in Davenport or a rural part of the state, you'll get the same instructions once your donation is approved.

Your data
We wipe every device with Acronis before it's reused. You can protect yourself further by backing up, signing out of your accounts and resetting the device before you donate. Our guides cover Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android.
Taxes for Iowa donors
Computers with Causes is a program of Giving Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. If you itemize, you may be able to deduct the fair market value of your donation on your federal return. Starting in 2026, itemizers can deduct only giving above 0.5% of adjusted gross income.
State tax rules vary. Ask your tax preparer how a donation affects your Iowa return. Our tax guide explains the federal rules.
