Who donates from Massachusetts
Massachusetts donations come from universities and hospitals in Boston and Cambridge, biotech and software companies, offices in Worcester and Springfield, and households from the Berkshires to Cape Cod.
Cold winters and city parking make planning important. Pack indoors, and for bulk pickups tell us about building access and loading zones.
Electronics rules in Massachusetts
Massachusetts bans old CRT screens from the trash, and many towns set their own rules for other electronics. Donating a working computer keeps it in use.
We responsibly dispose of electronic waste through standard recycling and processing procedures, which are then handled by downstream facilities that process any e-waste material.
Donating from home
Most donations from Massachusetts homes are a single laptop, desktop or tablet. Fill out the form with a few photos and an estimated value. Our team reviews it and, if approved, emails you the shipping address and packing instructions.
Donors in Boston, Worcester, Springfield and smaller towns all follow the same steps. Please don't ship anything before your form is approved.
Businesses, schools and nonprofits
Businesses, schools and nonprofits across Massachusetts can donate in bulk, and bulk pickup is available everywhere in the state. Send a list with device types, models and quantities, and tell us about access at your site.
Offices in Boston replacing a fleet of laptops, school districts retiring Chromebooks and property managers clearing out a building all use bulk donation.
Your data
We wipe every device with Acronis before it's reused. You can protect yourself further by backing up, signing out of your accounts and resetting the device before you donate. Our guides cover Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android.
Taxes for Massachusetts donors
Computers with Causes is a program of Giving Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. If you itemize, you may be able to deduct the fair market value of your donation on your federal return. Starting in 2026, itemizers can deduct only giving above 0.5% of adjusted gross income.
State tax rules vary. Ask your tax preparer how a donation affects your Massachusetts return. Our tax guide explains the federal rules.
