What a corporate donation looks like

Why companies donate retired equipment

A refresh cycle can retire hundreds of laptops and desktops at once. Many still have years of useful life. Donating them gets that equipment to students, job seekers and nonprofits instead of a recycler, and it supports reuse and sustainability goals.

Computers with Causes places thousands of computers a year with people and programs that need them.

What we need from you

A list is the best way to start: device types, makes and models, quantities, the locations they're at and whether drives are included. Spreadsheet exports from your asset system are fine.

Tell us about access at each site, such as loading docks, elevators and pickup windows.

Data security

We wipe every device with Acronis before reuse, and a certificate of data destruction is available on request. If your policy requires drives to stay with you, remove them before pickup and tell us on the list.

Receipts and the tax side

Giving Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, provides a written acknowledgment listing the equipment received. For equipment your business depreciated, the deduction is generally limited to its remaining tax basis, so fully depreciated equipment may deduct little or nothing.

Starting with the 2026 tax year, C corporations can deduct charitable gifts only above 1% of taxable income, up to 10%. Ask your tax advisor how a donation fits your situation. Our tax guide explains the rules in more detail.

From list to pickup

We review every donation before anything moves. We can't promise acceptance or a timeline, but we'll reply with next steps.

  1. 1

    Send your list

Counts by type, brands, condition and an estimated value. A spreadsheet or photos are fine.

We let you know what we can use and plan the next step with you.
