What you can donate

We review every item case by case. We don't accept CRT monitors. Pick your device to see how to get it ready.

Shipping one device, or clearing out an office

Single devices are shipped from Utah after your form is approved. Donors ship at their own cost, and shipping is sometimes reimbursed. We send the address only once your donation is approved, so please don't ship anything before you hear from us.

Businesses, schools and offices in Utah with many devices can schedule a bulk pickup. Send us a list of what you have and we'll plan it with you.

Your Utah donation, step by step

Who donates from Utah

Utah donations come from software and tech companies along the Wasatch Front, university departments in Salt Lake City, Provo and Logan, outdoor businesses that use drones and cameras, and large families who pass computers down until they're ready to donate.

Dry heat in summer and cold mountain winters mean devices should stay indoors until you ship.

Electronics rules in Utah

Utah has a manufacturer electronics recycling program. Donating a working computer keeps it in use first.

We responsibly dispose of electronic waste through standard recycling and processing procedures, which are then handled by downstream facilities that process any e-waste material.

Donating from home

For a single computer in Utah, start with the form. Include the make and model, its condition, photos and an estimated value.

If it's approved, we'll email the shipping address and what to include. Donors in Salt Lake City and every other part of Utah ship at their own cost.

Businesses, schools and nonprofits

If your Utah business or school has more than a few devices, ask about bulk pickup. It is available in all states, including everywhere in Utah.

Send your list with the form and we'll plan the pickup with you.

Your data

We wipe every device with Acronis before it's reused. You can protect yourself further by backing up, signing out of your accounts and resetting the device before you donate. Our guides cover Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Taxes for Utah donors

Computers with Causes is a program of Giving Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. If you itemize, you may be able to deduct the fair market value of your donation on your federal return. Starting in 2026, itemizers can deduct only giving above 0.5% of adjusted gross income.

State tax rules vary. Ask your tax preparer how a donation affects your Utah return. Our tax guide explains the federal rules.
