Who donates from New York

New York donations come from Manhattan offices and financial firms, hospitals, universities, media companies, and households from Brooklyn to Buffalo, the Hudson Valley and the North Country.

In New York City, building rules matter. Tell us about freight elevators, loading docks and certificate of insurance requirements when you plan a bulk pickup.

Electronics rules in New York

New York has an electronic equipment recycling law, and many electronics can't go in household trash. Donating a working device keeps it in use first.

We responsibly dispose of electronic waste through standard recycling and processing procedures, which are then handled by downstream facilities that process any e-waste material.

Donating from home

For a single computer in New York, start with the form. Include the make and model, its condition, photos and an estimated value.

If it's approved, we'll email the shipping address and what to include. Donors in New York City and every other part of New York ship at their own cost.

Businesses, schools and nonprofits

If your New York business or school has more than a few devices, ask about bulk pickup. It is available in all states, including everywhere in New York.

Send your list with the form and we'll plan the pickup with you.

Your data

We wipe every device with Acronis before it's reused. You can protect yourself further by backing up, signing out of your accounts and resetting the device before you donate. Our guides cover Windows, Mac, Chromebook, iPhone, iPad and Android.

Taxes for New York donors

Computers with Causes is a program of Giving Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. If you itemize, you may be able to deduct the fair market value of your donation on your federal return. Starting in 2026, itemizers can deduct only giving above 0.5% of adjusted gross income.

State tax rules vary. Ask your tax preparer how a donation affects your New York return. Our tax guide explains the federal rules.

Questions from New York donors
